The Journey to the Top

The stairs are narrow and make me think of the stairs that you see as you ride a tram in the Gateway Arch.

Looking up while on the stairs one can see the outside of the internal dome. Not all that pretty. One can also see the support structure that supports the external dome. You can see the light coming in through the little port hole windows that one sees from the outside. They are simply decorative as you can't go really get to them to look out.

Looking from a lower location on the stairs, one sees the last span of regular stairs to the landing where the spiral staircase is.

Almost there.

A view of the port hole windows from the inside.

The arrow in the picture points to the location of the door that we came out of at the top of the Capitol.
